Hi and welcome to the start of a new week. We were blessed with sunshine over the weekend, so it's a shame to be back in the office, still we have a new guest author interview to keep us going - today we meet fantasy author - M L Chesley.
Please introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?
My name is Mel Chesley. When I am not working part time at the local Boy's & Girl's Club, I'm a writer of fantasy.
What first inspired you to start writing?
My geek is going to show. I started writing when I was a teenager. Mostly fan-fiction for things like 'Elf Quest' and Dungeons & Dragons.
And what was your first story?
It was a fantasy set in the Underworld. It included demons rising up against a kingdom determined to steal the legendary Book of Shadows.
How do you prepare yourself for a writing session?
Usually, I will just put on my writing playlist on my iTunes and just get right to it. If I put too much thought into writing, I'll talk myself out of it.
What is your favourite book and why?
I have to go with 'Faerie Tale' by Raymond E. Feist. I read that book when I was younger and it always stuck with me. Can't really explain why.
If you could work with any author who would it be?
Tolkien (yes I know he's long gone) or Feist.
What advice would you give new and aspiring authors?
Build your reader base and platform, then get your writing out there. Flood the market with your work, but don't sacrifice perfection or professionalism!
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm currently revising my second book in my "Shadow of the Rose" series, "Veritas".
Tell us about your latest work and how we can find out more.
My debut novel, "Adversarius, Shadow of the Rose: Book One" is currently available on Smashwords and Amazon. It is a high fantasy that includes lots of typical fantasy races such as orgres, elves and the like. It also includes Dragons, dragonkin, Elfcats and Mahjii (wizards). Oh, and pirates. Spelled with a 'y'. Can't forget the pirates!
